Jesus has commanded us to love God with all our hearts and minds, but he also included loving our neighbors. Our neighbors are all those people who live in our towns, cities, states, nations and world. Politics is about how we live with our neighbors. Join us as we think about issues affecting our communities.
Sept. 14 - Faith and Politics: Where do we begin
A discussion with Sharon Harris-Ewing of our early memories and experiences with politics. Sharon is a member of this congregation.
Sept. 21 - Faith and Politics: Being an Elected Official
Sharon Harris-Ewing who served for a number of years as a member of the Williamsville School Board will talk about her experience. Sharon is a member of this congregation.
Sept. 28 - Faith and Politics: Racism
Frank Massiah, head of the Buffalo NAACP will lead us in a discussion of how racism affects us.
Oct. 5 - Faith and Politics: Poverty
Dennis Walczak, head of Catholic Charities will talk about some of the issues of poverty, and how government policies affect those issues.
Oct. 12 - Faith and Politics: Health Care Issues
Ann Monroe, president of The Community Health Foundation of WNY and CNY will lead this discussion. The Community Health Foundation of WNY and CNY is a non-profit foundation whose purpose is to improve health and health care in this area. The primary focus is on frail elders and children.
Oct. 19 - Faith and Politics: Hope for the Future
Marilyn and Tony Link will help us summarize where we have been in our discussions and what hope we have for the future.
Our series will be using a workbook, Living God's Politics based on Jim Wallis's book God's Politics. We hope that you will purchase a copy of the workbook so that you can be an informed participant. Each session is based on a chapter in the book. The books will be available after worship starting August 24, the cost is $7.
