The Caring Network of North Presbyterian Church

"Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and God’s love is perfected in us."

I John 4:11-12

At North Presbyterian Church, we believe that Christians are called to provide love and care for one another. Our caring is a direct response to the love of God made known to us in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

A variety of formal and informal ways exist by which we demonstrate our caring. "The Caring Network" refers to the formal ways that our community of faith seeks to ensure that the personal and spiritual needs of our members are met throughout all of the joys and sorrows of their journeys in faith. It is a very real "network" of people working together to care for others.

In addition, the ministry of caring at North Church takes place through many informal ways.  For example, North Church members and friends find opportunities to show care and concern in the fellowship of small groups and all-church events, in the relationships formed through learning and working together, in visiting during the coffee hour, and in praying during worship services. In a very meaningful way, every member of the community of faith is also a part of the Caring Network.  Everyone at North Church is invited to provide the "informal" caring that touches others everyday by caring for one another.

Pastoral Staff - The Pastor and Director of Pastoral Care of North Church are actively involved in providing pastoral care and spiritual guidance to the members of our congregation. They welcome information about pastoral needs and concerns (e.g., illness, upcoming surgery, grief, and personal crises) of individuals and/or families within our church community.

The pastoral staff visits with individuals and families in their own homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and at the church. The pastors are available to listen, provide counsel, offer prayer, read the Bible, and bring communion as individual needs and circumstances permit. They may weave together needs and resources by referring concerns to the Pastoral Care Team, Neighborhood Groups, the Parish Nurse, or Stephen Ministers.

Board Of Deacons - These elected officers of North Church serve the congregation through compassion, hospitality, congregational fellowship, caring for the lonely, comforting the sick, and caring for others.

Pastoral Care Team - Members of this team provide additional support in a variety of ways to members of the congregation whose lives are in a period of transition.

Stephen Ministry - These trained lay ministers provide a one-on-one, confidential ministry of listening, caring, and sharing God's love with members of the church community who are struggling through a difficult time.

Parish Nurse Ministry - North Church enjoys the services of a Parish Nurse.  Currently, Pat Mohr, who is a registered nurse, offers health-related advice and counsel to individuals and health screening and education to the congregation and community.

Communion to the Furthest Pew - North Church gladly distributes communion to its homebound members when requested.

Memorial Receptions - North Church provides memorial receptions to its members as a church service when requested, and to non-church members for a small charge.
