The Lost History of Christianity: Much of what you know about the history of Christianity is just plain wrong, says Philip Jenkins in his latest book, The Lost History of Christianity. Christianity was centered in Asia and Africa for more than a thousand years and is not inherently a “European” religion. Dr. Timothy Watkins, Professor of Religion at Canisius, and a favorite teacher of adult programs at North, will return February 21 and March 14 to teach two parts of a 5 week series based on the Jenkins book in the 9:30 AM hour in the Chapel. On the intervening Sundays, we will look at the historical and contemporary situation of Christian minorities in Muslim regions of Africa and Asia:
March 7 Azubike Kalu-Nwiwu, North Africa and Nigeria March 14 Tim Wadkins, continuing our discussion of the Jenkins book March 21 Rebecca Krawiec, discussion of her research on fourth century Coptic Christians in Egypt
Reading the Jenkins book is not a requirement, but you may obtain a copy of the book or a brief summary handout from Pat Townsend, the series convener.
