North Church and the Mission Committee receive two important awards North Church has recently received awards from two community agencies we serve. These awards are a testament to this congregation’s commitment to mission and outreach to our community. The first award is from Homespace. As you remember, our Christmas Giving Tree gifts in 2008 were given to the young mothers and children who reside in this place. Homespace provides safe housing for young families who need to make a new start in life. In addition to the Christmas gifts, each mother and child also received a homemade fleece wrap. With the additional funds the Mission Committee appropriated, three vacuum cleaners and a set of cleaning supplies for each resident were purchased and donated. The trophy we received will be on display at the table in Westminster Hall for the next few Sundays. The second award is the Founders’ Award from TRY - Teaching and Restoring Youth. TRY also serves needy youth in our community – youth who need a safe and nurturing place to rebuild their lives. North Church has been involved at TRY for many years. The girls who reside there are remembered at their birthdays with a card and movie passes. Christmas baskets, Valentine baskets, and homemade fleeces have been a part of our contributions over the years. We also funded the makeover of one of the ten rooms that were remodeled and redecorated recently. North Church is being awarded this honor on September 25th at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. The evening’s activities begin at 6:30 pm with dinner to follow at 7:30 pm. All North Church members are invited to attend. Please call JoAnne Alderfer at 631-3963 or email joalderfer@yahoo.com for ticket information. Both of these agencies will be on the route of our Magical Mission Tour on September 13th. Don’t forget to reserve your place on the bus that day so that you can see close up and personal where your mission dollars are at work!!
