The Session calls for more attention on national and world poverty On October 5, 2008 Session at North Presbyterian Church approved the following motion: The Mission Committee recommends that the Session go on record in support of the article entitled "Political Parties Must Confront the Problem of Need" that appeared in "The Buffalo News" on September 9, 2008, and requests the Session to encourage members of the congregation to voice their support of this initiative. In addition, the Session requested that the following letter be sent to "The Buffalo News" for printing on its editorial page: "In their September 9,2008 'Another Voice' piece, the Rev. G. Stanford Bratton, chief executive officer of the Network of Religious Communities, and Dennis C. Walczyk, chief executive officer of Catholic Charities, called 'upon political parties to present a significant policy speech during the presidential campaign dedicated to proposing a comprehensive plan to address poverty and opportunity over the next decade.' North Presbyterian Church, Williamsville, fully endorses this request, recognizing that, as a body of faith, we are called upon to be advocates for those living in poverty. It is the intention of our congregation to urge the candidates to articulate their views and strategies for closing the gap between the wealthy and the poor, the haves and the have-nots, the economically strong and the economically weak, fully expecting that a plan will be stated that serves to help eradicate poverty in our country, and in fact, the world." Session also encouraged members of the congregation to take action requesting that their candidate of choice speak to the issue of poverty during the 2008 presidential campaign.
