Troop 991 welcomes young men 11 years old or currently beginning 6th grade, or have not yet reached their 18th birthday, and who are interested in adventure in the outdoors. July 13 - 17 - Philmont - There are still a few spots left to join our Scouts on their Philmont Trek.  Philmont is a 14-day trip, the highlight of which is a 10-day backpacking trip through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains where there will be daily programs portraying the life and history of the Southwest.

Some program examples are a mining camp where you can pan for gold, make hooks at a blacksmiths shop and tour a copper mine.  Another program offered is the Continental Tie Company where Scouts can experience what life was like building the Transcontinental Railroad.  The Scouts will be climbing poles and making railroad ties with hand tools.  A demonstration of Koshari Indian dancing, and a stop at the National Airforce Academy in Colorado Springs rounds out the exciting adventure.  Applications may be obtained through www.wnyscouting.org.  Search word - Philmont.---Submitted by SMG a 3 time Philmont veteran.
