Our Vision for the Future Between Fall 2005 and Spring 2006, the Session and the congregation of North Church engaged in a process of reflection, assessment, and visioning that resulted in a report that is titled "A Congregational Vision for Mission." Part of this document sets forth both short- and long-term goals for North Church as a community of faith.
The ten most immediate, short-term objectives are listed here in no particular order.
- Continue efforts to create a comprehensive, long-term plan for the future.
- Complete plans to make the church building handicapped accessible.
- Improve internal communications and continue to foster a church "culture" in which our diverse views and opinions can be heard and freely discussed.
- Empower members with leadership skills, opportunities, and experiences.
- Evaluate and determine an appropriate staffing model for the next five years.
- Explore opportunities to work with other local churches to develop cooperative worship services and musical events.
- Improve the spiritual maturity and Biblical literacy of our members.
- Become more responsible to members' needs for prayer and encourage members' personal prayer life.
- Increase new members and encourage their participation in our church's programs, circles, committees, and other activities.
- Provide more extensive pastoral care to all church members and their families, as well as to the residents of the Presbyterian Village who are located in an adjoining property.
Several additional issues are identified that are to be addressed as continuing, longer-term objectives.
- Increase the outreach of our church's mission to the local community and encourage the continued growth of our membership.
- Define and foster effective witnessing in the local community and at our various workplaces.
- Develop meaningful educational programming for young adults and couples between the ages of 18 and 35-40.
- Create a contemporary worship service as an alternative to our more traditional worship experiences.
- Examine ways to enhance educational programming for, and increase attendance of, our children and youth.
